Did You Know…
Fact: Between 1950 and 2000 the U.S. population nearly doubled, but in the same amount of time the public demand for water more than tripled.
Fact: A recent government study showed at least 36 states are expecting local, regional, or statewide water shortages by 2013
Fact: According the the EPA an average household spends at least $500 a year on its water and sewer bill, but by installing water-efficient appliances and utilizing a few conservation techniques, they could save about $170 per year. If all U.S. households did that the country as a whole would save more than $18 billion a year.
LEAKS:
♦ Leaky faucets that drip at the rate of ONE drip per SECOND can waste more than 3,000 gallons of water each year.
♦ Leaks can be accounted for, on average, 11,000 gallons of water wasted in the home every year.
♦ The amount of water leaked from U.S. homes could exceed more than 1 trillion gallons per year.
SHOWERS:
♦ A five minute shower only takes about 10-25 gallons of water, while a full bath tub takes about 70.
♦ A showerhead leaking at 10 drips per minutes wastes more than 500 gallons per year
TOILETS:
♦ If your toilets are from 1992 or earlier, you can replace them with newer high-efficiency toielts and use about 60% less water.
♦ If your toilet is running constantly, you could be wasting 200 gallons of water or more every DAY.
